UX Wizards Website
Building community through whimsy and Webflow

A digital home for a collaborative UX community. ✨
Timeline: 4 months
Community: UX Wizards
My Role: Researcher, Designer, Developer, Content Writer, Stakeholder
Tools: Webflow, Figma
Problem Statement

UX Wizards is a grassroots UX community that grew rapidly during the pandemic. Continuous high-effort projects had resulted in volunteer burnout and strain among team members.
By the end of 2020, the Executive Board (including myself) recognized the need to rebrand the community to better manage expectations of members, volunteers, and newcomers. The goal was to position UX Wizards as a collaborative and welcoming learning community where active participation was encouraged.
Updated visual language
Designing for personality and community magic to improve clarity, emotional appeal, and structure.
Vibrant and whimsical
Responsive and adaptable
Person-first content

Scope
My main focus of this project was the homepage but I ended up working on standardizing certain aspects throughout. I did almost all of the content writing as well.

As a team, we took stock of our current website and asked ourselves a few major questions:
- What do we want to accomplish with the website?
- What is our budget?
- What pages are must-haves? What pages are nice-to-have?
- What does success look like?
The homepage
I designed and built the homepage to quickly convey what UX Wizards is and guide users toward Meetup participation.

- Structured to reduce bounce
- Responsive and accessible
- Infused with visual identity and real member stories
Community-driven features
Features built for collaboration and recognition.

Rotating member stories give life to the site

Working within constraints
Designing through limitations set by budget, team roles, and learning curve.

- Shared Webflow account meant only one user editing at a time, making consistency difficult
- Webflow had a learning curve that most team members found difficult
- Shifting team roles led to mid-project strategy pivot
- I stepped in across pages to ensure design consistency and meet launch timeline
Results
A more intentional community presence

- Increased clarity for new members with intentional CTA to join via MeetUp
- Strengthened UX Wizards’ identity as a playful, beginner-friendly space
- Provides useful Quicklinks that current members frequently ask for
- Gives recognition to current and past volunteers

Validating Session Names
To validate the Session names I created a few spreadsheets and sent them to 12 participants.
8% of English terms were updated
24% of Chinese terms were updated
Part 1
For the first half, participants were asked to describe what they believed each Session achieved based on its name.

Part 2
Part 2 | The second half revealed the intended purpose of each Session and asked the participant to react or brainstorm names.

Results
The feedback resulted in the change of several names, improving their clarity and differentiation. For example, the Session ‘Get Over It’ was renamed to ‘Recover’.
The team in Taiwan did the same with the Chinese naming.
